Horses, cows, and wheelbarrows...Oh my!

I just wanted to share a few pictures from our recent trip to my hometown. I grew up in a small town (one stoplight) in a house designed by my mom, with 40 acres , a barn, and a myriad of animals, including a ton of dogs, wild barn cats, feather-footed chickens, goats, calves, horses, and even an occasional wild hog. As you can imagine, it was a pretty exciting and interesting childhood. The kids love to visit my my hometown because they get to pal around with their PaPa and experience what must be like a rural Disneyland for them. While here at home, we don't even own a pet, at PaPa's they not only get play with dogs, they get to feed livestock, ride horses, and even take a ride around in a wheelbarrow! They absolutely love it.

The Big 7!

It has been a while since my last post and a lot has occurred since then. We survived two weeks of Christmas festivities with both sides of the family, and made it out with a few extra pounds and about half of a toy store. We always have a blast spending time with our families and we look forward to each gathering. Here's Audrie enjoying one of her presents...

and Finn enjoying the box his present came in.

Now, the BIG news. Last week we celebrated my daughter's 7th birthday! It seems like only yesterday she was a chubby cheeked baby, and I blinked and she's 7. We opted to just have a small family party this year and forgo the frenzy of birthday party planning. The night before her birthday as she was sleeping, my mother-in-law and I decorated the house and prepared a cake to surprise her the next morning. We scattered her presents about her room and set the table with some fresh tulips and her cake...lovingly decorated, alternating layers of chocolate cake with white chocolate chips, and white cake with dark chocolate chips complete with sparkler candles.

The next morning we awoke to this...

and its culprit....

I think Finn was smart for trying to eat some cake before we got a hold of it! Needless to say, we got few laughs out of the incident. We spent the day doing things Audrie wanted to do which included going to the movies, making crafts, and present/cake time with the grandmas. It was simple and fun.

Happy Birthday my sweet girl!

Another hurried painting. I couldn't decide what to do and I ran out of time, so this is just a quick illustration I did last night. This could definitely be my daughter. I think she would live solely on ice cream if I let her!

IF: Soar

Longing to soar.

I didn't have much time to execute this, but this was the idea I had when I read the topic. Have a great week!
