Water Safety

I don’t know about your kids, but mine, or at least one of mine is an expert in water safety. This is what my son decides to wear when he plays in the water:

…even if it’s just playing in the sprinklers out back.

I Heart Wallpaper

No, not really. I’ve been knee deep in a paint swatches lately. I promised my kids that once we got into a new place, their rooms would be the first thing on the list to decorate. The last time we moved it was into a brand spankin’ new house, so there was no prep work. We just bought the paint and went to town. This time however, there’s been a bit of prep work involved in the form of wallpaper removal. ugh.

DSC_0087

After we bought this house, we decided that since there was a little boys room all painted up that matched Finn’s bedding perfectly, we would give that room to Audrie so we could spend the weekend removing wallpaper, priming the walls AND ceiling and painting everything bright, girly colors. I know. Ridiculous. But there’s a reason we did so. This room happens to be the biggest of all of the extra bedrooms, and it seems obligatory to give the oldest the biggest room in the house. But more than that, this room has a window seat, and what girl doesn’t love a window seat?

So while my hands reek of vinegar and my knees are covered in bits of wallpaper that I’ll probably have to use the paint scraper to remove, I keep picture my little avid reader curled up with a good book, sitting in her light saturated window seat. And if you’re wondering what the rooms going to look like, well I can’t tell you. It’s not going to be a big surprise reveal, it’s just that we haven’t quite figured it out yet. But here’s our jumping off point:

They are 60"x 104" and were only $12 a piece. Not bad if I do say so myself.

Well, that’s it for now.

I’m LOST

Are any of you fans of the show LOST? Though I’ve watched every single episode from the beginning, I can’t say I’m the most dedicated fan. I probably would have quit watching two seasons ago if my husband hadn’t forced me to keep sitting next to him on the couch each time an episode aired. So that being said, it was obligatory I watch the series finale on Sunday. And being the nerds that we are, my husband and I decided to invite a few friends and fellow fans over and have a “LOST Series Finale Party.” Dorks, I know. But just wait until you see what we did…

[If you are fans of the show, this will make more sense.]

Oh yes, each person who attended got an Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 ticket.

Dharma Initiative food and party favors were a must.

And the nerdiest of all: the names that Jacob had written on his cave walls, we wrote on our breakfast room walls. [We’re in the process of removing wallpaper, so it wasn’t a big deal. They’ll probably be there for a year or two before I paint over them, sadly.]

DSC_0047 The finale made me laugh, it almost made me cry [but I didn’t], and it tied up some loose ends. I liked how you got to say goodbye to each of the characters, and I loved how the ending shot mirrored the opening shot at the beginning of the series… very clever. But, when all was said and done, they really didn’t answer the biggest question of all…what was the point of the island? They also left some of the more significant mysteries of the show unanswered. So they were cheap tricks to keep us watching? Not cool.

Ok, enough venting. The show’s over now, and once this blog post is over, I’ll forget about it and move on with my life.

Until the next sci-fi thriller,

My little spy guy

I want you to know that I had nothing to do with these pictures besides holding the camera and pushing the button. This is how I found my son the other day. The outfit, the pose, the stern look on his face…all his idea. I’m not even sure how long he was standing there, hands in pocket, leaning against the wall with his feet crossed before I came into the room.

It always amuses me to see what this little guy will become each day. Sometimes he plans it the night before, and lets me know that “Tomorrow, Mom, I’m going to be a cowboy,” and other times it’s completely spontaneous. And I love watching how his concept of each persona translates into playtime. There’s never a shortage of interesting characters running around my house. It sure keeps us entertained.

[I apologize for the blurry pictures. My camera decided to stop auto focusing so there might be a shortage of posts for a while until I can get it fixed.]

**Okay, I’m a dork. Apparently there are two auto focus buttons on my camera, and while I knew to make sure one was not on manual focus, I did not check the other. Camera problem solved.

Help…

buried

…we’re buried in boxes and we can’t get up!

Well, we’re all moved into our new house, though not unpacked. I will show you all pictures when I get to them, but it might be a while before they’re posted. We’re heading off to sunny Florida tomorrow and will be back next week. I’ll try to blog while I’m gone and keep you all updated on our trip, but I can’t make any promises.

I’ll see you when I see you!
