Hello, Monday!

This morning...

::We are anxiously watching Mr. Elmo Yellow Tiger make his cocoon. We found him on Friday, fed him tons of leaves all day Saturday, he made his way to the top of the bug box on Sunday, and now we are patiently waiting to see his metamorphosis.  I don't know who's more excited, the kids or me.
:: I'm almost done with the robot painting for the baby's room, but I'm not sure I like it. I might have to tweak it quite a bit, or sell it and make a new one.

::We finished painting the baby's room this weekend. It's grey with stripes. It looks a little sophisticated right now, but I'm planning on adding a lot of fun colors with the art I have planned for the space, the fabrics and the furniture. How do you like his new dresser/changing table?
:: I'm not quite finished with this project, but here's a sneak peek of what's new in the hallway between the kids' rooms.

:: I'm going to be setting up his crib today [finally]! I bought the crib off Craigslist over a month ago, and it's been sitting in the piano room ever since.
:: And finally, we've been making so many changes to the house, and I wish I had a working camera to show you everything. It took having a baby to give us the kick in the pants we needed to get things done, but then something else came up. I am super duper excited about what's going to be happening in a few weeks, but you'll have to wait and find out. Until then, we'll be working like mad to get our projects done before mid May.

Happy Monday!

A sweet little note

I came into the breakfast room today and found this:

I know that as his teacher, I should correct his spelling, but it's just too sweet.

Getting Crafty

Saturday morning I woke up way too early and couldn't go back to sleep. It's always quiet in the wee hours of the morning because I live in a family of night owls who make up for their nightly escapades by sleeping late. But about an hour into my peaceful morning of doing laundry and stuffing my face with vittles, I heard a rumbling thunder from my studio. My progeny were awake and up to something. Curious, and slightly concerned, I went upstairs to see what all of the hustle and bustle was about. I found this:

My two children were excitedly working on a project for Baby Boy. I had mentioned a month or two ago that I wanted the kids to make a stuffed toy for their brother. For some reason, this was the morning they got the itch to do it. I found material strewn across the studio, an assortment of buttons laid out on the quilt top, and plans for several robot plush toys. The winning robot was this one:

He's not stitched together yet, but he's super cute, and I can't wait to add him to the room.

Hello, Monday...sigh.

I am without camera right now, except for the one on my phone. And now my phone is failing me. It won't upload any of my photos. I have so much to share with you. There have been many changes to our ever evolving house, and we've been getting a little crafty around here, too. For now, all I have is this staged picture of my unfinished studio. It looks so clean and neat, but a little sparse.

I hope your Monday is going a little better than mine.

Here's to a happy Tuesday!

A start

This is the start of a painting for baby boy's room. Right now, the plans are to paint his room grey with stripes adorning one wall. I have orange as the predominant accent color, and blue as a secondary accent. This canvas is going to be home to a robot, one of my favorite subjects to paint. And, if I can find special brass trinkets I've been reserving for an extra special project, they'll be a part of this robot as well.

I have a sneaking suspicion that one of my children might have carried my trinkets off to use for their own endeavors. I'm not naming any names, but I have a feeling the culprit might be the same little boy who used the trinkets in his own sculpture months ago.

Hmmm.

I just might be losing my mind...

It might of been the prospect of all of the money we'll be saving, or maybe it was the fact that we won't be producing an insane amount of trash for the landfill, but really it was probably more of an "If that lady can do it, I certainly can" kind of challenge...I'm considering cloth diapering this little boy. I've already ordered some stylish little numbers in some fun colors. They are so cute and so soft that I might consider wearing them myself.

Ok, I'm not that crazy.

Hello, Easter?

Ok, I know Easter was over a week ago, but as soon as I got home our lives were met with a full schedule, so I'm posting these late, and you're not going to say anything about it. Deal? Deal.

We spent Easter weekend [+ some extra days] at Jonathan's family's, and enjoyed, as usual, seeing the family, hunting eggs, and stuffing ourselves with the overabundance of desserts. We also finally got to meet our newest cousin, Miss Ava, with whom Audrie took quite the liking to. I don't blame her.

I know it looks like we sent out a memo for everyone to wear blue, but this was just a happy accident.

The ratio of kids to eggs gets pretty ridiculous. This year we had 97 eggs for three kids. That ratio, if you're doing the math, is 33 to 1. 33 eggs filled with candy and money per child. And I still get in trouble for sneaking an egg or two from my kids.

Our Easter egg hunts can get a little wild, and this year we had a few casualties, the first one being Audrie's Easter basket. It was knocked out of her hands by a flying ball.

And the culprit? Well, he couldn't be more proud of his aim.

The second casualty was Dave. Poor thing. He got trampled while trying to get some amazing shots of his little boy hunting eggs.

But what's a good egg hunt without at least one trampled patron.

And finally, Audrie got a good taste of what's to come in a few months. She got in some sweet Ava time and loved every minute of it...that is until...

she encountered some spit up. I'm just glad she didn't throw Ava off her lap.

Oh, dear sweet child, if you only knew what you're going to be up against come July.

Happy Monday!

Baby Quilt

This is the start of the quilt for baby boy. My mother-in-law and Audrie started piecing this together a couple of years ago, but we never got around to finishing it. A new baby gave us the perfect excuse to do so. Plus the colors are going to work great with some of the things I've already bought for the room. Hopefully Audrie and I can finish it before this boy debuts, but as I'm not much of a quilter, it might be a longshot. If that happens, we'll just frame it and hang it up as art.

Six

My sweet, silly, energetic, rambunctious, snuggly little boy turned six today. Once again, I'm in awe at how quickly the time flies by. As much as I want to keep my baby my baby, I have to face the fact that he's growing up, oh so fast. Plus, in a few months he will no longer be my baby, he will be the bigger brother.

Captain Finn, you are an absolute joy. You make us laugh everyday. You are the ham to our family sandwich. [Audrie is the cheese ;)] I love your imagination. And I love, love, love how you embrace every bit of your being a little boy. You are the definition of childhood, and how I wish I could keep you in this state forever, or at least a little longer.

Happy birthday, Captain Finn Maximus!

I love you so much!

Fishing

Sorry for my absence. We've been out of town enjoying some down time just relaxing and enjoying this spring weather. Audrie's becoming quite the little fisherman, catching perch with bread and a net. Finn himself caught a turtle with some bacon.

We'll be back to our normal routine tomorrow, and I'll have a lot of Easter pics to share.

Until then...

Hello, Baby Bump!

I have less than 4 months to go! I have a feeling I'm going to be huge. I'm already catching things on my 5 month belly. This baby is quite the mover and shaker. I think he must be taking karate lessons in there. I love it, though. It's so sweet and strange to know that that's a little life moving around inside me.

Happy Monday!
