Meet Nigel and Mr. Turtle

I met a couple of new characters yesterday. This is Nigel and Mr. Turtle. This wasn't our first meeting. Nigel popped up in my sketchbook last week, and Mr. Turtle joined him during church on Sunday. (I listen to the sermons better if my hand is busy...honest) They were so cute, I had to see what they would look like in color with their matching outfits.

And now I'm introducing them to you. :)

The String

Here are a couple of images for a new wordless picture book I'm working on...

I'm still exploring with the final style, but I like the limited color palette and textural element with using actual embroidery thread.

9

For some reason, nine seems so much older than eight. I know it's just one year, but the idea of my son turning nine is harder to wrap my mind around. I'm pretty sure I've already said this, and that I'll say the same thing next year. It's hard to accept that time just keeps ticking on, seemingly faster and faster taking your children with it.

Sweet, sweet, Finn. You're my snuggle buddy, my prankster, and my deep thinker. You can be quite shy at times, but never at home. You're a confident user of large words, half of which you're unsure of the definition, but you don't let that stop you. If you don't know how to do something, you'll boldly state that you can teach yourself. You are also very good at explaining how things work, even if you don't know how they work. ( I believe this is a strong trait from a particular side of the family. :) I love your confidence, your mind, and your sweet heart, Mr. Finn. And of course, I love you!

Happy 9th birthday, my son!

Love,
Mom
