Well, anyway, I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and a low tolerance for dentist visits, but when I started taking medication for my jaw ache, I broke down and made an appointment. I found out I didn't need a root canal (yippee!), but was put on antibiotics for a minor infection that was thought to be swelling the lymph nodes under my jaw causing the pain. I was also given codeine for pain management (double yippee!!). Seriously, though, I don't like taking meds and try to avoid them as much as possible. However, when you're jaw is aching, you're sleep deprived, and you can't take a fifteen minute power nap because your brain is guilt tripping you into getting back up because there's work to be done, codeine becomes really tempting. I would recommend to those who might be using the sweet stuff, uh, I mean codeine to remove pain as well as catch up on some sleep, to not resume physical activity right after ingesting the medication. In other words, don't pop a pill, take an hour long nap, and wake up feeling so refreshed that you think you should go on a 45 minute bike ride. Such an act will produce dizziness and nausea that will leave you bed ridden for the rest of the day.
Several days after the antibiotics/codeine taking began, I started dealing with the whole pinkeye fiasco, which, by the way, I'm still donning. Although my eyes look clear, and my vision's fine, my optometrist informed me that I will be sporting my old glasses for a while. I think it's all a ploy to get me to buy a new, much cuter pair of frames. I believe it's working. I found a pair of chocolate brown rimmed frames with turquoise accents that catch my eye every time I step foot into his office. I wouldn't be surprised if he put them right next to the waiting room chairs to tempt me.
Yesterday morning, Finn woke up and decided to do his best impersonation of Linda Blair a la The Exorcist (the projectile vomiting part, not the head spinning) and continued this well into the evening. On top of that, I decided to clean out my craft shelves right before Finn got his show on the road. Did you know one can cram enough stuff to fill a room in a single shelving system? So, between outfit changing, floor mopping, head rubbing and carpet scrubbing, I would go stare at the mess that is now my dining room as it mocked me with its overwhelming clutter.
So, now it's Sunday. We're skipping out on church today so we won't spread any icky stuff to our friends. Finn seems better and is able to eat and drink, but I'm still on guard. I think we're going to take it easy today. The mess in the dining room can wait, as long as my brain, who, as I mentioned likes to guilt trip me, doesn't have too much to say. Yes, I think it's a book reading, movie watching, pj wearing, snuggle up on the couch kind of day. There might be some sweets involved, as well because, as I like to say "When life drags you down, eat candy!" Okay, I don't really say that, but candy does sound good right now.
I was going to write about quilts too, but this post got a little long, so that will have to wait. In the meantime, I'm off to the convenience store. I hear chocolate calling.
Until tomorrow,
Nessa Dee
you poor thing! i'm sure you're beyond exhausted.
ReplyDeletep.s. i'm a dentist regular, too. i have a checklist at the dentist's office of "things to be taken care of" and we're checking them off one at a time.
that all sounds miserable! i detest the dentist, and, well, vomit.
ReplyDeleteWow, when it rains, it pours! I think I'm going to have to pass on being your dentist one day if it will change our relationship so significantly ;) Glad everyone's recovering!
