Crafty Friday: Monochromatic Abstract Collages

Whew, that’s a mouthful! Crafty Friday’s finally back at least for this week. We’ll see how next week’s ever changing schedule works out for crafting.

When I was in the process of staging my house, I needed a painting to hang in the water closet [or throne room, or place where the toilet’s located] to break up all of the red. Desperate for something quick and cheap, I ran to Ross Dress for Less and picked up a small painting of an Italian landscape in a chunky black frame for $8.99. After I got home, though, I found that the painting fit quite nicely in my breakfast room, so I was back to square one. I ended up taking a couple of frames I owned, a few pieces of scrapbook paper and book pages, and some tape and made these in about 10 minutes:

Thus, a Crafty Friday project was conceived.

Here’s what you need:
-a variety of scrapbook paper in the same color scheme. If you don’t have scrapbook paper, peruse magazines and cut out any pages in the particular color.
-scissors
-glue
-a piece of cardboard or heavy cardstock

Step 1: Pick a color for the project.

Step 2: Gather all different kinds of paper or magazine pages that stay within the same color scheme.

Step 3: Start cutting pieces and arranging them on the cardboard or cardstock.

Step 4: Glue all of the pieces onto the cardboard.

Step 5: Hang and enjoy!

Maybe, just maybe this will appeal to any Star Wars fans that might come through the house…

Flexible

That’s what we’ve had to be lately. It’s been a bit hard to get in a routine when it’s often interrupted. We never know when someone’s going to call to come view the house, and so far, most of the viewings have been midweek, during school time. I don’t think the kids mind so much, though. This is their tradeoff:

And what do I do on these little excursions? Well, I’m on dog duty.

Fashion Forward

vest4

My son’s a trendsetter. I bet you didn’t know that. I also bet you didn’t know that argyle sweater vests paired with striped shirts, mittens, sporty wind pants, and crocs are the latest thing toddler fashion. Yeah, I didn’t know that either, but for some reason, for the last few days, Finn has been pairing his comfy jogging pants with an array of vests usually reserved for Sunday’s best. And he accents each outfit with his “how in the world did these get so popular” crocs, which he calls his flip flops.

I don’t know what’s going on in his little brain when he picks out his clothes, but I can’t argue. Clashing or not, I’m just happy that he doesn’t come out of his room wearing his underwear on his head.

Mi Casa es su Casa?

Here are some more pictures of our house that I took for the real estate agent. You’ll notice that I kind of went all out with the color. I was a bit concerned since all of the design shows advise people to paint their walls neutral colors for selling purposes, but our real estate agent said not to worry about painting over everything, that the house would show well. And with that huge load off my shoulders, we listed our house.

[I have nice brushed nickel hardware to add to the cabinets, but I don’t have a drill to install them. Maybe I can glue them on for show. ;)]

Well, that’s a quick tour of our colorful home.

Now, onto business…if anyone’s looking for a house on the outskirts of Austin with easy access to downtown, close to shopping [i.e. the biggest Target in Texas], in a master planned community with amenities such as hike and bike trails, ponds, three swimming pools, parks, a workout facility and clubhouse, baseball and soccer fields, sand volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, and nice neighbors, then this is the house for you. It has 10 foot ceilings throughout, 12 foot in the foyer, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 living and 2 dining, a large kitchen which opens to the family room, 2 car swing in entry garage, crown moulding, arches and art niches, custom paint and a covered back porch. It sits on an oversized lot with plenty of room and loads of potential [future pool, maybe?].

So how was that for a promo? I’ve almost convinced myself to stay here, or become a real estate agent.

Audrie’s Room

Remember a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I once promised to show my kid’s rooms on the web? And then not quite so long ago, but still pretty long ago, I revealed Finn’s room to the world. Then I decided to wait forever, anticipating that you would forget [ like me] that I actually have two kids’ rooms in my house. So, I should have posted the second room way back when, but as life tends to get in the way, and stuff remained unfinished in the other child’s room, I made my excuses, and went about my merry blogging way. But, fate stepped in recently and forced me to not only finish the room [to an extent] but take pictures as well. So, thanks to the recent decision to put our house on the market, [thus the sporadic blogging and mentions of super duper house cleaning/reorganization] I have pictures of my daughter’s room. TA-DAH!

Okay, I might actually have to take more pictures with details. But hopefully this will do for now. I find that a lot of my time is taken up these days with trying to keep my house immaculate with two kids and a dog in the home 24/7. They don’t quite like my game of “Let’s sit on the couch and not touch anything all day!”

Now, if anyone knows someone who wants to but a house with some custom painted kids’ rooms in the burbs of Austin, let me know.
