Camping

Well we survived our one night camping trip, and, as you’ll notice, I don’t have my computer fixed yet so I had to draw the account of our adventure. Here’s how it went.

We loaded up our vehicle with just the essentials we would need for one night of roughing it; essentials like Oreos, air mattresses, every outdoor toy you can imagine, cupcakes, donuts, cinnamon rolls, pillows, stuffed animals, magazines, several pairs of shoes, and more Oreos. Here’s what our site looked like after we staked a spot:

camp2

We set up our tent, and it only took us three tries.

camp1

When our friends got there, we helped them set up their tent while the kids played.

camp3

We went hiking along the lake and saw a lighthouse, and Finn swears he saw a shark.

camp4

We got back to camp and built a fire.

camp5

We cooked dinner and ate it.

camp6

We made the traditional campfire food…s’mores. We also feasted on cheesecake as well as a combination cheesecake s’more.

camp7

After putting the kids to bed, we talked a bit about the campfire, how rugged we felt camping, and ate a bit more cheesecake that had been warmed by the fire. We then headed off to our tents and tried to fall asleep to the serenading sounds of 10 loud teenage boys camping next to us. At 1AM, I took a stroll to the port-a-potties with Finn. At 3AM it started raining. At 6AM we were asking forgiveness for whatever we had done to bring upon us such a raging storm.

camp8

At 7AM we started packing everything up before we floated away or got struck by lightning. At 8:45AM, we put the last of our stuff in the car and as we climbed in to drive away, the rain quit. Just like that. And it didn’t rain again for the rest of the day.

camp9 Soaking wet, muddy and cold, we drove away from the campsite and made one final stop before heading home.

camp10 And that was it…the end of our one night fiasco.

And, yes, we checked the weather before we decided to embark on this adventure.

And, yes, we did know it was going to rain.

And, yes, we did enjoy our syrup soaked pancakes after all was said and done.

I love hearing from you all, so comment away! I will do my best to respond, but if I haven't, it's probably because I'm teaching my kids, or am knee deep in paint, or have lost my mind.
