The BIG BEAST(don don don!)

Guest blogger: Audrie

DSC_0098 This is my dragonfly I found. Trixie pawed it to the ground. I scooped it up into a bowl. DSC_0096

Up there is the lens cap for size comparison.

DSC_0097 Believe me, I did not take these pictures at night. Here, see for yourself:

Finn and the stinky bag

Me: Finn, why is your bag stinky?

Finn:I don’t know, I just bought it.

Me: You bought it?! How much did you pay for it?

Finn: 25 cents.

Me: 25 cents for a stinky bag?

Finn: Yeah, see [showing me a book] it says 25 cents right here. And see [showing me another page of the book] you can buy another bag that doesn’t stink.

Me: How much does that one cost?

Finn: 24 cents.

Me: I think I would buy the bag that doesn’t stink

Finn: Yeah, that would be nice.

Finn: I don’t want to eat my carrots.

Me: You need to eat your carrots. They give you vitamin A which helps your eyesight.

Finn: But I can see. Mom, I can see you.

15 minutes later…

Finn: Mom, my eyes are glowing. I ate my carrots!

After picking up one of Audrie’s friends for a sleepover, Finn yelled: Yea! Now we can go home and play Barbies!

MiMi: Finn look at your big tummy.

Finn: It’s saying good morning to you!

Audrie, did you hear that frog in my bottom?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finn: PPPPTTTTTTTWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHH. That's funny.

Jonathan: Why is that funny?

Finn: Because I'm tooting all the time. It means I'm hungry.

New in the Shop

These little guys are new in my shop, so go check ‘em out!

And I’m working on a bunch of new paintings to list before the Christmas holidays. My sewing machines are still not cooperating, so the paintings might be ready in time for Christmas 2010. Here’s a sneak peek of the paintings:

And do you see those two little things sitting in the middle of everything? Those are the two sewing machine needles I broke yesterday.

Patience…patience. Burning the sewing machines won’t solve anything.

Smiling through gritted teeth,

Look What I Won…

Ok, I’m a little late posting this, like over a month late. Eek! [I’m still trying to find where October went. If I do I’ll let you know.] Back in September, a very talented artist held a contest to celebrate her 200th blog post, and I bet you’ll never guess who won…that’s right, me!

The very talented Debbie Egizio gave this as her prize:

box1

It’s a beautifully crafted, mixed media dream box. It is covered in lovely collaged elements, and the inside of the box holds four little cards labeled ‘dreams’ ‘hopes’ ‘wishes’ and ‘prayers.’

box2

It’s such a wonderful little storage box for life’s expectations an desire, and might I add that it matches one of my paintings perfectly. That’s part of the reason why it’s taken me so long to post about it because I’ve been enjoying it in my curio cabinet on display next to the painting. Debbie creates beautiful artwork and if you get a chance, check out her site and her shop.

box3

Thank you Debbie! I love it and am delighted to have one of your pieces in my home!

Sermon Notes

I had an English teacher who allowed us to doodle on our notes while she gave the lesson. She had read a study that showed people were able to retain more information while drawing and listening as opposed to listening alone. I took that to heart. [Obviously, since I still remember it from 7th grade.] Whether it’s true or not, I use it as an excuse to explore the world of design while sitting in church. Some little part of me wants to become a fabric designer, but with a lot of other projects on my plate at the moment, I don’t need to spend a great deal of time pursuing a thought that pops into my brain every once in a while. So once a week, for about thirty minutes, I jot down little designs in the corners of my sermon notes. I save all my notes because, who knows, one day I might just have to give fabric design a shot.

And yes, I still hear the sermon.
