A note from the baby...

Hi there. Baby here. I've hijacked my mom's blog because I need your help. You see my mom, God bless her, has been buying me new clothes on just about every trip she takes to a store. Now I appreciate the fact that she's trying to have me look like the trendiest baby on the playground, but I've got to draw the line somewhere, and this is where....

Sure these look like an innocent pair of sweet little baby blue jeans, that is, until you take a gander in my mom's closet...

That's right, my mom bought me a pair of maternity jeans. Really, Mom? I mean, I'm a boy, and it's bad enough when moms try to coordinate outfits with their sons for family portraits, but maternity jeans? This has got to stop. The next thing you know, she's going to have us wearing matching sun hats! So, if you happen to see my mom out and about, buying something for me, will you make sure it looks manly enough to hang with the guys. No lace. No bows. No maternity wear.

The Chairs!

As promised, here are the pictures of the finished chairs. But before you see them, let me refresh your memory on their previous state.

Here's a close-up of the fabric that 3 out of 4 of us chose.

In hindsight, I'm glad I was outvoted. Trying to make sure that stripes were aligned on every chair pad would have driven me crazy. I probably would have given up after one chair.

My husband said that if we ever lose our way home, we can always follow the glow of our chairs. It's always a bonus when my zany creative outbursts turn out to be practical, too.

Hello, Monday!

Today...

:: I managed to bang my head on the edge of our gate. You can't really see it in this picture, but it looks like a huge zit. Nice!

:: I'm working on several new paintings. A lot of the ideas I worked up in church.... I'm easily distracted.

:: Our nature walk to find an old bird nest to study turned into playtime in the creek behind our house. The water looked so inviting. I wish our pool was open.

:: I'm happy to see that our neighbors' trees are full of apples and peaches this year! Maybe we'll get to pick some again.

:: Some of us are a lot cooler than others in this household.

:: I've eaten my weight in homemade honey granola chex mix. I combined 2 different recipes from chex.com, slightly burned the whole mix, and now the only people that will eat it are the dog and me. I'm almost sick looking at this picture.

I finally finished my chairs and I have pictures to prove it, but you'll have to wait until the next post the next post. They're quite bright and cheery.

Now I'm off to the studio to paint before the kids drag me outside again to catch minnows with their homemade nets.

Itchin'

I've been itchin' to get in to the studio, get it all perfect, and most of all get back to work, but I've had a few setbacks.
First of all, my perfect table ended up being a little wider than I expected. Though I'd planned the room over and over, and measured twice, and got all of the logistics worked out, I didn't bank on the sawhorse style legs to stick out as much as they did, and it didn't fit next to my dresser like I had planned. So I'm back to square one on reworking the whole space. Right now the table is under the window, which is not where I want it. This room gets wonderful light especially in the morning, but looking directly into that light is brutal. I don't know if I'll ever work in the morning since that's our school time, but just in case, it needs to be moved.

Secondly, see those two in the above picture? They've hijacked the new space to make their own creations. I found myself working on the floor yesterday while they enjoyed the lovely new workspace.

Lastly, since the beginning of time [it seems] MY studio has housed my HUSBAND'S power tower. It's not small, it never gets used, I can't get it out of the space without taking it apart, and I've tried to take it apart, but it requires the strenght of Hercules to do so. I don't have Herculean strength. So this thing is constantly being shifted around the room so I can either sit at the table, or open the closet, or get stuff out of the drawers.

On the plus side, it has made for a nice indoor jungle gym for the kids.

The plan is to get it out this weekend, and I can't wait!!

I also can't wait to show you the new paintings I'm working on.

Hello, Monday!

Today I'm...

:: Super excited about my new furniture for the studio. It's from Ikea, and although I try to avoid Ikea like the plague, this new stuff is going to be much more functional than what I have. The best part? It came with a child to help me put it together. He can read the pictogram instructions much better than I can.

:: I pulled this painting out of my closet and hung it in the breakfast room to tie in the new color of the dining chairs. I also surrounded it with math problems to make it look smart.

:: I have an important supper date...

:: I picked up the fabric for my freshly painted chairs. I was out voted 3 to 1 in favor of the paisley, but I'm going to add the stripe fabric in pillows. Ha!

:: I picked this little guy up for $5. He's supposed to go in Audrie's room, but I'm enjoying him down stairs for a little while.

:: My springifying of the house is mostly done.

:: I had a little help with the mantel from the Ikea boy. I think the Nerf bullets keep the fireplace from looking too feminine.

Transformation

No, not my ever growing belly, although it has been going through quite the change lately.

[Where are my feet?]

I'm talking about the recent changes my dining room chairs have been going through. They were quite tired and dark, and needed a little bit of a pick me up, and not just from a cute little boy sitting under them.

Maybe it's all of the spring colors everywhere, or the fact that I have baby boy stuff on my mind, but here's a little gander at what they are transforming into.

Now, I did this before I had any fabric picked out. Hopefully I can find something to match. If not, well then the chairs will be painted my original choice of warm grey.

Hello, Monday!

Today...

:: My kids had breakfast at 10:30. They don't mix too well with Daylight Savings Time.

:: We are doing school on this first [and second and third] day of Spring Break to make up for the days we missed last week. Ah, one of the perks of homeschooling.


::We are gearing up for springifying our house. [Yes, that's a word because I said so.]




:: This also includes spring cleaning. I've been working like a lazy Trojan to get the house cleaned out before we have to add a bunch of new baby stuff to the mix. I bawled and squalled when I started giving away Audrie's old clothes. Love those pregnancy hormones!


:: We are also trying to get all of our house projects done before the little Mr. arrives. And because I'm the pregnant one, Jonathan gets to do the brunt of the work.

:: I'm s-l-o-w-l-y but surely getting the baby's room ready. We are moving the big bed into Audrie's room, but it has to be painted first...[Jonathan].

:: And of course, I've had to stock up on some essentials for the room. I'm trying not to buy everything I see. It's hard, though.

The Banquette

My daughter asked me if these pictures were going to be for a post about breakfast. Not quite, even though it kind of looks like I'm trying to promote Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Really, I was just trying to get some pics of the banquette before we started school work. These pictures aren't the best, and I'm still needing to finish it off with cushions and pillows, but here's a quick look for now.
