Austin SCBWI Header

As part of the prize package for winning the Austin Writer's and Illustrators Working Conference portfolio showcase, I was given the opportunity to redesign the Austin SCBWI website header! It was a wonderful opportunity, and I'm beyond excited to see the header up. This was the final design:

A big thank you to Austin SCBWI for giving me this opportunity, and to Sam Clark and Amy Farrier for all of your help! And thanks again to Candlewick Art Director Kristen Nobles, and illustrator Molly Idle for awarding me with the grand prize. I'm still giddy from the conference!

Agatha

Just a little digital sketch I did yesterday. I named her Agatha because I think she looks like an Agatha, and I love the name Agatha, and had my third child been a girl, that child would probably have been christened Agatha. I don't why she's sad, but perhaps I can cheer her up today when I'm sketching.

West Austin Studio Tour

I'm about to bid farewell to this little girl for a couple of weeks. She will be a part of the “Austin SCBWI Illustrators & the Art of' Children’s Books” display at the Twin Oaks Branch Austin Public Library from May 2-17. This is one part of the larger West Austin Studio Tour exhibit going on this month.

I'm a little bit nervous letting my baby go, but I know she'll be in good hands, and she'll get to mingle with all of the other fantastic pieces from a group of very talented artists.

And if you get a chance, stop by and see what is sure to be a wonderful exhibit!

Oink, Moo, Neigh, Baa

The farm has come to my studio!

These little guys are my latest works. They were super fun to make. I experimented with the backgrounds a bit, and I love the result. To me they are reminiscent of old crazy quilts which fits so well with the farm theme. They will be available for purchase as soon as their done with their photo shoot for Gallery Direct.

It's Raining A's and B's

This is my latest portfolio piece. Lucy, as my son dubbed the spunky redhead, has inspired a new picture book idea, which I started writing last weekend. I'm not quite sure how her story is going to end, yet, but I've got to set it aside to finish another story first. It's a little hard to focus on current projects when this wild, bright red hair keeps interrupting my thoughts. All in good time, Lucy, all in good time.
