Adapted by Nessa Dee to fit our personal account of our one snowy day in central Texas.
After breakfast Audrie and Finn once again put on their jackets and ran outside. The sleet that was falling had become a little bigger and fluffier. It stuck in their hair, kissed their cheeks, and tickled their noses.
They watched in amazement as the snow began to pile up along the fence.
Crunch, crunch, crunch, this time their feet sank into snow.
They walked with their toes pointing out like this:
They walked with pointed toed boots like that:
They even walked b-a-r-e-f-o-o-t to make tracks.
And they saw something else that would make new tracks.
It was Trixie – the perfect companion for walking under snow covered trees.
Down the snow kept falling on top of the Audrie’s and Finn’s heads.
They thought it would be fun to have a snowball fight,
and they knew it would be more fun to join the big boys.
Then they made a mulch covered snowman,
and they made snow angels.
Audrie pretended the world was a snow cone. She ate heaping balls of snow.
Finn picked up a handful of snow – and another, and still another. He packed it round and firm and carried it with him all over the park.
Then, Mom and Dad decided it was time to go back to the warm house. They talked all about their adventures while Mom dried the wet dog.
They knew that very soon the sun would return and melt all of the snow away. They felt very sad. When they got home, snow was still everywhere. After a snack, they went back out together to make as many adventures as they could make before the end of this snowy day.
