Night

Hey there! I’m still here. I’ve been dealing with intermittent internet [say that three times fast] and trying to get my house put back together after emptying all of the closets, drawers, baskets and bins. It’s not been fun, but oh it feels so good to open a closet door and not face a disaster zone. My house has never looked cleaner. I might even post pictures later. Right now, though here’s some nighttime scenes from our casa, taken by Jonathan at 3AM.

I think that last one’s pretty awesome. Well, they’re all pretty awesome.

I’ll be back soon with more news and hopefully get my shop updated.

*9*

cake

Wow! I can’t believe my little baby girl is nine today. It just boggles my mind how quickly time passes. Last night we told you all about the day we met you. You smiled and giggled as we reminisced . This morning we sang “Happy Birthday to You,” had cake for breakfast, and you opened your presents. Nine years…it goes by quickly.

nine2

Age nine:

*You draw all the time. You are always designing rooms, making up games, imagining mythical creatures with detailed descriptions of their characteristics.

*You love to read. Every time I turn around, if you’re not drawing, you have your nose in a book. You read while I shop, and I have to keep telling you to pay attention to where you’re going. This was you on Christmas Eve after opening all of your presents:

read

Your favorites include the Nancy Drew series, anything by Jack Prelutzky, The Time Warp Trio, any story that involves animals, and the Percy Jackson series.

*You have an extensive vocabulary, and you’re fearless when it comes to using new words, though not always correctly. You love wordplay and are always thinking of puns and creative uses for words.

*You love to sew and are working on a series of felt animals to eventually sell.

*You are becoming quite the piano player and though we are trying to get you to better your music reading skills, you prefer to play by ear.

*You read and write poems all the time. Some mornings I go into your room to get on to you for not getting up, and I find you sitting in bed, writing a poem.

*You’d make every day a pj day if I let you.

*You love teaching your brother things and quizzing him later. You are very patient with him and make time to play with him. You two have a lot of fun together even though there’s a five and half year age difference.

*You play soccer year round now, and you have so much fun with your team.

*You and Finn and Daddy love to snuggle on the couch and watch cartoons together. Currently you are watching Avatar to prepare for the upcoming movie.

*You are still one of the sweetest persons I know, and I’m so very thankful and feel so blessed that God picked me to be your mommy.

I love you, sweet Audball.

Scenes From Christmas, Part 2: Puzzles and Games

Puzzles and games are always a part of our holiday festivities, and have been for as long as I can remember. As a small child I remember overhearing the laughter that would echo from my Gangy’s kitchen table as the adults played games. As years passed, the kids would linger around that table, watching and learning, and eventually joining in on the fun. Playing games has generated some of my favorite holiday memories.puzzle

And it never fails that someone [usually my brother, ok always my brother] purposefully ends up with food on his face or teeth and laughter ensues. Then, sadly, more of us follow suit. [ Did I mention that we’re pretty punch drunk at this point?] bro And just so my family won’t hate me for posting embarrassing pictures of them on the web…game5 I might regret this later. Oh well. We had fun.

Scenes From Christmas, Part 1: Baking

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but in every picture of the kids and I making cookies together my hand happened to be in the bowl of cookie dough. You see, I have a problem, an addiction really. I was pretty much raised on cookie dough, and I can’t resist the stuff. I’m trying to cut back, but every holiday gives me an excuse to fall off the wagon and eat bowls full of cookie dough. I apologize to those of you who are reading this and have eaten my cookies, but please know that I wash my hands a lot during the dough making process…most of the time. cook6

Happy 3rd day of 2010!

fam1

Just wanted to pop in and say hi and I’m still here. We’re kind of in the middle of a major house reorganization, so some things have been a little neglected [ahem, blog]. Hopefully we’ll get things in order soon and I can get back to the normal routine.

I hope you’re all enjoying this fresh new year so far!

Be back soon!
