Rocket Dog

Well actually, a rocket AND a dog.

These are a couple of recent paintings that I sent to Cherry Tree Creative, my favorite store for unique, handmade, and vintage finds. I am so excited to get to sell my paintings at this store. It is a treasure trove of things that are infused with imagination, saturated with character, and filled with history. If you're ever in Taylor, Texas, you should pop in for a spell. It's worth a special trip.

Well, Hello Again!

Why hello little blog! It's been quite a while since we've chatted. A lot has been going on in our life the last couple of months, so much that it's hard to fit it all in a post. I didn't intend to wait so long between conversations, but the busyness of life left little time for us to talk. I've missed our little chats. I've missed being able to reminisce with you, and show you what we've been up to. We've got a lot of catching up to do, so I hope you're ready for an earful. For now, I'm going to give you a little peek at one of the projects I have been working so hard on...

I'll tell you more about this exciting project tomorrow.

Nice talking to you again, little blog!

These Two

I love to watch these two together. They have a funny relationship. It's somewhat of a love/hate relationship.

He loves to give her hugs.
She hates to receive them.

He loves to hide her chew toys.
She hates when she can't find her toys.

He loves to poke her belly.
She really hates being poked.

Trixie's a curmudgeon. She always has been, and she's very quick to tell anyone when she's being bothered. With August, sometimes her her growls are unwarranted, but most of the time, they are voiced as a result of his torments. He takes a little too much pleasure in torturing her.

But it's not all bad. Trixie's become very aware of the benefits of having August around. He has a habit of throwing his food off of his high chair tray, and Trixie's always right there to catch it. August is very good at playing tug of war, one of Trixie's favorite games. Trixie finally has someone that doesn't mind getting his face licked. And these two have become quite proficient in the art of squirrel watching.

Since August joined our family, Trixie has gained five pounds, been poked and prodded, had hair pulled, been sat on and tormented, and has had to compete for attention which August mostly wins. But she also found in this little spitfire, a companion, a friend, a playmate, and someone who's quite generous with his food.

Travelling Musicians

Just a quick post to pop in, say hi, and show you a sketch.
I've been settling into our new school schedule, but Labor Day threw me off quite a bit. It's also been quite an adjustment with a very active toddler in the mix. I'll get back to my regular blog posting soon, but if you want to check out some of our goings on you can look at my Instagram page, or follow me on Twitter for few there as well.
And just for the grandparents...

It's all in preparation for something exciting!
I can't wait to share the big news with you, but you'll have to be patient for now [as will I]

cracker box

So the craft project is still in the works. Monday, perhaps? I know I've said this before, but I tend to get inspired, plan way to much for the week, and then sorely disappoint myself when I get about 10% of my to-do's done. This past week marked the end of our weekly homeschool cooperative, which is always a busy time. I volunteered to make some props for the play and, of course, had huge expectations [like Broadway will surely offer me a job as a set designer after seeing these puppies], but my imagination is much bigger than my abilities. Add to that, sick days, cheerleading camp, a freak cold front with major wind gusts, and a 9 month old, and I almost had to label the props so people could tell what they were. They were pretty bad, and I was praying that the boat I made would stay together long enough for its 60 second scene. It survived, I survived, and now I'm looking forward to this busy next week as we prepare for a quick trip to DC. It will be the first time flying for Mr. Gus, so if you have any tips, please share!

As for tips, I thought I'd share this nifty device I discovered while making props. If you have a baby, or small child, or perhaps a husband who looks like this when he eats:

Than this is the product for you!

I call it the "Cracker Box," otherwise known as a crumb catcher!

Just look at all of that crumb catching capacity!

I know you're saying to yourself  "Why is this so special, Nessa? It's just a box."

But what looks like just a box is actually much, much more. With this product, there's no clean-up involved!

"But, how?" you might say if you kept talking to yourself.

The key to this self cleaning Cracker Box is in its unique design. The special open-ended box allows for easy access of any and all family pets and means that the crumbs are licked up almost as soon as they fall to the bottom:

Just set your baby/child/husband inside, hand them a cracker, and watch the Cracker Box do its job.

The Cracker Box keeps crumbs off your floor, crumbs off your rug, your baby happy, and your dog fed!
It's a win win situation!

The Cracker Box comes in small, medium, and husband sizes and is available anywhere you can find a box. Those who have a Cracker Box should be aware that use might  result in an impromptu tongue bath
 Dog not included.

IF: Contained

This is just a quick painting of my dog. My printer's on the fritz right now, so I couldn't print off a picture to guide me. I tried to get Trixie to pose for me, but as it is with puppies, it's hard to keep her energy contained. She sat still for brief moments of time with the promise of a treat. But, since it was my son giving her the treats, she was led into another room following his uncontainable energy.

IF: Strings

This painting is not a new concept, just a new angle. I posted the same idea a while back for "stitch" and I wanted to try it again from a different perspective. I still don't know why this little guy is in a hot air balloon high up in the sky, but I'm sure the story will come to me. :)

On another note, my one year blog anniversary is Thursday! Illustration Friday is the reason I started blogging, but my blog has evolved into much more. I'm excited and am in a giving mood, so check back tomorrow for a surprise!

IF: Canned

Jack was used to dry dog food. It was the main staple of his diet. He didn't ever complain. He knew he was lucky, having lived life on the streets for a while, to have a decent meal each day. But, on rare occasions, Jack was rewarded. For what? Was it his loyalty? Was it the fact that he returned the ball every time his owner dropped it? He didn't know.
Jack's ears perked up as he heard the familiar whirring, and he knew that tonight, he was getting his reward. He was getting canned dog food.

Growing up, my dogs were fed mostly dry dog food. But, every once in a while, we gave them the canned stuff, and they always acted as though they were getting a special treat!

This little guy will appear in my shop soon, along with some friends.

Have a good rest of the week!
